Amsterdam UMC-onderzoekers:

Prof.dr. Hanneke van Laarhoven

Hanneke W.M. van Laarhoven, MD, PhD, PhD, is hoogleraar translationele medische oncologie aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam en hoofd van de afdeling Medische Oncologie van Amsterdam UMC. Van Laarhoven is een groot voorstander van interdisciplinariteit binnen de wetenschap, zoals blijkt uit haar twee MA graden – in zowel de Geneeskunde als de Theologie (beide cum laude), alsook uit haar twee PhDs – in Medische Oncologie (cum laude) en de Religiewetenschappen. In her zoektocht naar nieuwe en betere behandelmethoden voor patiënten met kanker zoekt zij naar samenwerkingen tussen de (bio-)medische, sociale en geesteswetenschappen. Momenteel begeleid ze meer dan 30 PhD-studenten, PostDoc-onderzoekers en onderzoeksassistenten met achtergronden in de medische wetenschap, biologie, kunstmatige intelligentie, internationale publiceerde meer dan 390 peer-reviewed artikelen en een grote hoeveelheid abstracts voor zowel nationale als internationale onderzoeksbijeenkomsten. Binnen de onderzoekslijn ‘Contingentie, Cultuur & Oncologie’ is ze bij alle projecten betrokken als Hoofdonderzoeker (PI).

Dr. Niels van Poecke

Niels van Poecke, PhD, is als PostDoc-onderzoeker verbonden aan de afdeling Medische Oncologie, Amsterdam UMC. Hij heeft een achtergrond in de sociologie (MA) en filosofie (MA) en is gespecialiseerd in theoretisch en kwalitatief onderzoek, meer specifiek binnen de disciplines van de cultuursociologie en kunsttheorie. Hij publiceerde eerder over participatieve kunst, de relatie tussen cultuur/muziek en sociale ongelijkheid, en over het gebruik van (pop)muziek als zelfzorginstrument en medium voor de constructie van narratieve identiteit. Als onderzoeker participeert hij in alle projecten binnen de onderzoekslijn ‘Contingentie, Cultuur & Oncologie’; binnen ‘Staging Cancer’ als projectleider.

Drs. Yvonne Weeseman

Yvonne Weeseman, MA, MSc, MSc, is als PhD-onderzoeker verbonden aan het In Search Of Stories-project van de afdeling Medische Oncologie, Amsterdam UMC. Zij heeft een achtergrond in de klinische psychologie, geestelijke verzorging, klinische gezinspedagogiek en creatieve therapie.

Drs. Emily Evans

Emily Evans, MA, is als PhD-onderzoeker betrokken bij de afdeling Medische Oncologie, Amsterdam UMC, waar ze werkt aan het project ‘Staging Cancer’ en ‘In Search of Stories’. Emily heeft een academische en professionele achtergrond in kunst en cultuur, en is gespecialiseerd in sociaal geëngageerde kunstpraktijken. Ze is afgestudeerd aan de Winchester School of Art (VK) en als MA Arts, Culture and Society aan de Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam (NL). Daarnaast heeft ze gewerkt als producent en programmeur voor sociaal geëngageerde kunstorganisaties waaronder projecten als ‘Clubhouse’ ‘Lookout’ en ‘PROCESSIONS‘.

Drs. Marike Geurts

Marike Geurts, MA, is PhD student aan het Amsterdam UMC. Haar onderzoek is onderdeel van het interdisciplinaire onderzoeksproject The Art of Creating New Stories: Working with Art-Learning in Palliative Care. Ze is academisch geschoold als kunst- en cultuurhistoricus. Tijdens de master heeft zij gewerkt voor Studio I – platform voor inclusieve cultuur, een samenwerking tussen het Van Abbemuseum en het Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, waarin zij zich heeft bezig gehouden met inclusie- en diversiteitsvraagstukken in de cultuursector.  Tijdens de coronapandemie heeft ze zich laten omscholen tot verpleegkundige met een specialisatie in ouderenzorg. In haar werk als verpleegkundige heeft zij veel ervaring opgedaan met palliatieve zorg. Deze brede kennis en ervaring kan zij nu bundelen in haar onderzoek naar wat art-based learning kan betekenen voor oncologische patiënten in de palliatieve fase.

Mariana Gusso Nickel

Mariana Gusso Nickel, MA, is artistiek onderzoeker en onderzoeksassistent bij de afdeling Medische Oncologie, Amsterdam UMC, waar ze werkt aan het project “Cancer in everyday life: Exploring the affordances of music in narrative meaning-making in AYA patients with advanced incurable cancer”. Ze is afgestudeerd aan de Master of Art and Performance Research Studies aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam en ze is geïnteresseerd in onderzoek op het snijvlak van kunst en “life-writing” studies. Daarnaast is Mariana redacteur bij Simulacrum Magazine, waar ze kunstevenementen organiseert.

Dr. Michael Scherer-Rath

Michael Scherer-Rath, PhD is als Universitair Hoofddocent empirische religiewetenschappen en supervisor (LVSC) verbonden aan de Faculteit der Filosofie, Theologie en Religiewetenschappen, Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen. Hij doet empirisch onderzoek in spirituele counseling en diagnostiek en is gespecialiseerd in onderzoek naar ervaringen van contingentie in het leven van alledag. Als onderzoeker participeert hij in alle projecten binnen de onderzoekslijn ‘Contingentie, Cultuur & Oncologie’, binnen In Search of Stories als hoofdonderzoeker (PI).

Dr. Esther Helmich

Esther Helmich, MD, PhD, werkt als specialist ouderengeneeskunde bij Amsta, een grote zorgorganisatie in Amsterdam. Zij heeft veel ervaring met kwalitatief onderzoek, in het bijzonder met  de (longitudinale/herhaalde) inzet van interviews en visuele methoden. Samen met collega’s van de Western University (London, Ontario, Canada) heeft zij het gebruik van ‘rich pictures’ als onderzoeksmethode binnen de medische wetenschappen geïntroduceerd en verder ontwikkeld. Zij is als senior onderzoek betrokken bij het project In search of stories.

Drs. Nirav Christophe

Nirav Christophe, MA is lector Expanding Artistic Processes van de HKU Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht. Hij schrijft voor theater en radio. Hij was 9 jaar artistiek leider van de eerste vierjarige hbo-theaterschrijfopleiding in Nederland, en is een internationaal gerenommeerd schrijfpedagoog. Hij is een kenner van creativiteitsprocessen, gespecialiseerd in transdisciplinaire co-creatieve processen, waarin kunstenaars samenwerken met niet-artistieke domeinen.

Drs. Henny Dörr

Henny Dörr, MA is senior docent aan de HKU, University of the Arts Utrecht, working in the field of expanding artistic practices, within the professorship of the same name. The Care-Labs research environment of the professorship enables research on co-creative strategies and transdisciplinary collaboration between art, science and (health)care. They participate in transdisciplinary research projects such as In search of Stories; If you’re not there where are you (on the experiences of Absences) and Prikkel (on sensory integration). Within the educational programs of HKU, Henny Dörr developed a range of BA and MA courses on theatre design, (interactive) performance design and scenography. Originally a dramaturg that graduated in Theatre Studies at UvA in 1986, their perspective has always been on the creative and performative processes and practices that transgress the boundaries of disciplines. They have a vast international network within the expanded fields of scenography.

Dr. Jeroen Lutters

Jeroen Lutters, PhD, is professor Art education as Critical Tactics (AeCT) at ArtEZ University of the Arts. He propagates the importance of arts and humanities in-and outside of formal educational contexts. His main research focus is on creative theory, creative experiments, mapping and tracking creative interventions, and curating a radical creative turn in society. He developed the Art-Based Learning (ABL) approach and is the founder of the ABL centre, where hundreds of professionals are trained nowadays. As an independent curator and educator, he designed several exhibitions. In several monographies, he demonstrates how the work of modern artists, like Gerhard Richter and Cy Twombly, can be seen as research-based art in connection to creative thinking. At the moment, he supervises 6 PhD students in interdisciplinary contexts (arts, humanities, social science and medical research) and has recently published a handbook on art-based learning.

Prof.dr. Gerben Westerhof

Gerben Westerhof, PhD, is professor of Narrative Psychology and Technology at the University of Twente. He is interested in how stories about one’s own life are related to meaning in life, well-being and health. Besides theoretical and methodological work on this theme, he has applied insights from his work in the design and evaluation of several narrative interventions. He directs the Story Lab which brings together narrative research at the University of Twente. Over the past five years, he attracted 4.0 million euro of funding as (co-)applicant of research projects. He supervises about 10 PhD students and published more than 120 articles in peer-reviewed journals. He also edited several handbooks and was co-author of intervention protocols.

Dr. Fabiola Camuti

Fabiola Camuti (she/her) is Associate Professor (i.o.), at the Professorship Art education as Critical Tactics (AeCT), ArtEZ University of the Arts, Research Affiliate with the Amsterdam School of Cultural Analysis (ASCA), and KUO program leader Research in Arts Education (Arts Sector, National Association Universities of Applied Science). She has been researcher and practitioner in different countries and institutions (Italy, France, Denmark, UK, NL) and has worked as Lecturer at the Departments of Theatre Studies (University of Amsterdam) and Media and Culture (Utrecht University). Her research is strongly characterized by interdisciplinary methodology which involves the dialogue between humanities, cognition, and spirituality. She conducts research, leads projects, and gives seminars on topics that include embodied and socially-just pedagogies, participatory arts, performance & politics, politics of arts and cultural education, non-hierarchical learning, arts education in a more-than-human world.
